When searching for a new job or applying for a promotion, one of the first things an employer may search is your social media. While you may only have Facebook or you may have all social media apps, the way each portrays who you are to an employer is important.

Recruiting managers use potential hires social media to help fill in the gaps of who they are. While your resume describes your qualifications, your social media presence helps tell the employer who you are and how you might fit in with the company culture. While many utilize social media as another form of expression and communicating with friends and family, there are a few easy ways to keep your accounts recruiter friendly and help increase your chances of getting that job.

Facebook

Use your About Me section to describe yourself, your passions, and your interests in life aside from work. This allows you to show you are a well-rounded individual and provides a great starter topic during an interview.

Twitter

Recruiters may look to see whom you follow and if any of them are industry leaders or companies. This will show them while you may not keep up with every announcement the industry makes, it does show you are aware of who the leaders are and the general activities of the companies.

Instagram

This platform gives employers the best window into your life outside of work and how you may fit into the company culture. Interacting with followers is a great example of a simple action you can use to help show recruiters that you value relationships and are friendly in public spaces.
