Digital Literacy


We’re empowering individuals by offering free Digital Literacy courses. Whether it is at work, for everyday use, or personal projects, digital literacy skills are important in our technology dependent world. These courses give people the knowledge and skills to safely and responsibly use technology.

TechBeginners Workshops

TechBeginners Workshops will equip you with fundamental knowledge and skills in technology, letting you navigate and use technology effectively and you can earn a Northstar™ Certificate of Completion for each workshop you successfully complete. Workshops are free and held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm and Wednesdays from 10am-12pm. Register for all the topics or pick and choose the ones that will help you most. *Must reside in Marion County. Income eligibility guidelines apply. *


Workshop Topics:

Basic Computer Skills Learn how to use a computer including turning it on/off, using a mouse and keyboard and navigating the desktop. 

Basic Internet Safety Learn about basic online security practices, such as creating strong passwords and being cautious about phishing scams. Understand the importance of keeping personal information secure.

Computer Navigation/Basic Troubleshooting Navigate the computer to find tools for basic tasks such as connecting to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, adding applications, and more.

Internet Navigation Understand how to use web browsers.

Typing Learn the keyboard by finding the keys and increasing typing speed.

Email Communication Create and use an email account for communication. Understand how to compose, send and receive email messages.

Online Forms and Applications Gain proficiency in filling out online forms.

Mobile Device Usage  Learn how to navigate Smart Phones and Tablets.

Microsoft Word and Google Docs – Learn the basics of Microsoft Word and Google Docs to be able to create and format documents for work, school, or personal use.
