Kiaora’s Story

“Providing services and giving people a safe place without judgment can boost their morale, encourage them to keep rebuilding their lives, and allow them to let their guard down and express their struggles.”

Kiaora is a passionate and resilient young woman, interested in making community resources available to others. She learned about Mary Rigg through a community partner and decided to join the RiggCrew Cohort. There, she gained valuable skills and the mentorship of caring coaches. These coaches motivated her to further her education and enroll in college. After her time in RiggCrew, Kiaora become part of the employment team as a LISC AmeriCorps member. She offers personalized services to empower adults, youth, and families. In her role as an employment support specialist, Kiaora has a firsthand view of what housing and employment insecurity looks like for people in the community.

Kiaora was awarded the LISC Equity and Innovation grant which provided her with money to invest in her vision: Cold Cuts N’ Cutz, a program that provides free haircuts and lunches to those experiencing housing insecurity.

We are proud of the exceptional work and dedication of Kiaora. She is going to make a remarkable leader in the community!
