Summer Day Camp

Summer is in full swing here at Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center and our summer day campers are busy swimming, visiting colleges, reading, learning to ice skate, and more! It's been an exciting summer so far and the best is yet to come. The LEADERS pre-teens have already visited Marian College, Butler University, and Indiana University and have spent a week learning culinary skills from a local chef. Younger children participated in "Firefighter for a Day" where they learned all about careers in firefighting and fire safety. The younger children are also enjoying a range of out-of-school learning activities including the library's summer reading program, bullying prevention programming, and the junior master gardeners' program.

Each summer, MRNC holds a ten-week day camp for up to 150 at-risk kids, aged 4-13, from 6:30 am-6:00 pm. Days are filled with activities, field trips, and meals that allow working parents to maintain full-time employment and peace of mind. And each summer, kids are challenged to believe in themselves--to believe that they can graduate from high school, that they can go on to college, and that they can have the job of their dreams.
