Our History

Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center began in 1911 as the Immigrant AID Society. It was later known as the American Settlement, and eventually moved to West Indianapolis where it became Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center.

Throughout its existence, one thing hasn't changed about the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center: Our devotion to helping others. We believe service is key to helping those in need reach their personal goals.

Mary Rigg has served the community from its current campus since 1998. We are known as a neighborhood center, and that's appropriate, as we view ourselves as the heart of southwest Indianapolis – a place that radiates help and hope in all directions, and will continue to do so for many years to come.
